Physiatry
Physiatrists are medical doctors who have completed training in the specialty of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R). Physiatrists are experts at diagnosing and providing non-surgical treatments for injuries and illnesses of nerves, muscles, and bones.
Physiatrists educate patients about injury prevention, activity modification, exercise, and other ways to optimize physical health. In addition to establishing a treatment plan, physiatrists also coordinate a multidisciplinary approach which may involve therapists and other specialists such as orthopedists and neurosurgeons. Physiatrists help patients restore their maximum function lost through injury, illness, or disabling condition.
